Welcome
Welcome to the Auckland site for World Youth Day 2008!  Catch up on the latest happenings in the diocese here as we prepare for this epic celebration.

Group Leaders can find plenty of info on the GL Resources page, and Days in Ak will let you know what we're planning for before the big event!  We've also set up a special section to Link to WYD via the various official sites as well as featuring several pretty cool sites worth checking out.

AKL Groups is set up for us Pilgrims from Auckland.  It has links to our Facebook & Bebo groups and our Ambassadors Blog.  It also links you to WYD sites set up by our own pilgrim groups.  Not only are we hooking you up with the other groups in our Diocese, we're hooking you up with specific details: when are the key payment dates?  What's the programme like for Sydney?  And what should a pilgrim bring to Sydney?

Be sure to also check out our Challenge page to find out what you can do to help get the WYD message out there - and how you could win vouchers for the WYD Shop for Official WYD merchandise!

Latest Updates
We're Back. Now What??? - Monday, July 28, 2008
After so long a time preparing I am sure I'm not the only one who feels that World Youth Day was the experience of a lifetime and yet over far too soon!  No sooner were we farewelled than we are back to be welcomed by family, parish, school and our everyday life.

What we have now is a chance to relive our experiences and relate them to those we meet.  Pilgrim groups should be preparing for a debrief retreat and planning opportunities to share our experiences with the communities we are all from.

Visit www.connect.org.nz to share your experiences online with the Kiwi Pilgrim Journal.  This is a way to live out that call from the WYD 2008 theme "to be my witnesses"!  Here on Connect.org.nz, we're collecting any and every testimony and story about WYD from any and every New Zealander involved.  Whether it was during Days in the Dioceses or WYD in Sydney, we want to hear about the moments where you encountered God, your faith was deepened, you were changed, learnt something knew, or just found something really interesting or exciting.

And for more websites featuring stories and photos from WYD check out the "LINK TO WYD" page. read more ...

Last Days for Changes to Spreadsheet Details / Meeting Minutes - Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Dear Group Leaders,

Please take note of the following:

  • The names in the spreadsheet returned to Williment Event Management must be EXACTLY the same as the name in each pilgrim’s passport.  If these are different then travel will be refused.

  • From 1 May onwards name changes on tickets purchased through Williment Event Managementare NOT permittedA new ticket will have to be purchased.

  • Cancellation of tickets has a minimum fee of $500 from April 12.

  • Requests for changes to flights from April 12 will incur a fee of $50 per change PLUS substantial airline fees.

These are the last days available to check that all the names in your spreadsheets are totally accurate.

It has been advised that the details page of each pilgrim’s passport is photocopied to ensure they match.  This is advised also as a security measure also so please do so if you have not already.  (If you are still waiting for a passport application to be processed, ensure the name of the application matches that on the spreadsheet.  Passport details can be advised upon receipt of the passport.)  The March WEM Update is attached for your reference also.

These spreadsheets were due by the 11 April and were sent by Williments prior to this for you to check over.  Williments should have totally accurate all the required information now.  But you might want to do a last minute check – and it certainly couldn’t hurt to do one!

Group Leaders Meetings with Registration Manager John Sweeting.

Notes from all the New Zealand Diocesan meetings will be available from the NZ WYD website shortly.  Notes from the Auckland meeting held last Tuesday are attached now for your reference.

One of the key points from this meeting is now the availability of paying for the registration package by International Money Transfer (IMT) in addition to payment by Credit Card.  To arrange a payment by IMT please request details by email to gle@wyd2008.org or directly by email to john.sweeting@wyd2008.org

Please note that all necessary details to arrange an IMT will be supplied in addition to a remittance advice that must be returned when payment is made (so that the payment can be matched to your group).

Sydney Airport/Accommodation Bus Transfers

Thank you to the group leaders who have responded promptly regarding these bus transfers.  If you haven’t yet – it’s not too late.  We are still working through all the details and will be in further contact with you once this process has been finalised.  A deposit is likely to be required in May with payment in full required in June 2008.

Registration Package Payments due Friday 9 May

The payment for your registration package is due at the end of next week.  Please ensure that all your group members are correctly entered into the Egeria Registration website http://egeria.wyd2008.org/

The clock is counting down!  The World Youth Day Opening Mass on Tuesday 15th July is 78 days away!  We pray every blessing upon you as we all continue our pilgrimage preparations.

Blessings always and always

Joanne

URGENT WYD DEADLINE!!!! Flights, spreadsheets, visas & more! - Tuesday, February 05, 2008
FLIGHT PAYMENTS

Tuesday 11 March is set in stone as the date that payments due to Williment Event Management must be paid.

It is crucial that all groups pay for their seats by this date as any tickets not paid for by this date will be cancelled by the airlines.  This date is non-negotiable and late payments are not possible.

Williments are currently processing the received requests for changes and extensions and hope to be sending out invoices for the balance due within the next two weeks.  This is a very extensive and complicated process and we do ask your patience as they do so.

In the interim you can reliably base your planning on the cost stated on your confirmation letter sent last year.  The final price will be based on this but may include any changes in taxes.

SPREADSHEETS

All invoices will be created and flight tickets issued from the current spreadsheet information that was due December 14.

Please check your spreadsheet - the spellings of names especially. Changes to these details after March 11 will incur charges from the airlines.  Also pilgrims whose tickets do not exactly match their passport may be refused travel.

If your most recently submitted spreadsheet is accurate you will not need to submit this again.  However, please email wyd@williment.co.nz to confirm that no changes are to be made.  Williments cannot simply assume this.

If there are any changes to be made to names or details on your group’s spreadsheet, an updated version must be sent to wyd@williment.co.nz as soon as possible.  Thesemust be received by March 11

CHANGES TO YOUR GROUP MEMBERS / GROUP SIZE

You may have extra “Names to be Advised” seats.  You may have pilgrims wishing to cancel their booking or others wanting to join your group.  If so, in the first instance please contact me here in the World Youth Day Office.

We are fielding enquiries here at the World Youth Day Office and would love to be able to help as many pilgrims as we can to enjoy this pilgrimage.  We can only do this if we know what is available or needed from each group.  I need to know the number of seats available or required and the flight allocations of the group.  I will endeavour to match suitable pilgrims and groups as promptly as I am able – definitely before this deadline!

NATIONAL GARMENT SIZING REQUEST

These spreadsheets were also used to collect the sizes required for our hooded sweatshirts provided as part of the National Contribution cost included in the quotes from Williments.  There are still several groups who have not yet provided sizing details.

If you have not provided your group’s sizing details please contact me as soon as possible.  These details are required urgently and are needed by Monday 11 February

VISAS

All pilgrims travelling toAustralia for World Youth Day will need to have a passport valid for at least six months after the date of your arrival in Australia

All pilgrims travelling on a passport not from Australia or New Zealand will need to apply for a visa to travel to Sydney for World Youth Day.  There are two types of visa available depending on the country of your passport.  Please see the simplified guide to the application process to determine which process to follow and the application form 48R for those pilgrims that require it  - these are both available on the GL Resources page.

The full visa process also requires a letter of endorsement from our Bishop.  Dave Mullin has recently sent a guide to the process to obtain this letter to all group leaders.  Please contact me if you may have missed this and require this information.

Because of our March 11 deadline for payments and details we are encouraging all pilgrims who require a visa to apply as soon as possible to meet this deadline.

GROUP LEADERS MEETINGS

We realise there may be questions raised by these issues.  I am available here in the office to assist with your enquiries.

We have also planned the series of Regional Group Leaders meetings within the next few weeks to address any concerns you may have in advance of our March 11 deadline.

Each meeting will start at 7.30pm.  Details for each meeting are provided on our Calendar page.

If you as Group Leader are unavailable to attend a meeting, please arrange for a representative to be present.  These meetings will be very valuable and a way to address any concerns you have.  We’ll also have a chance to share what is working well for each of our groups as we work towards this pilgrimage!

Blessings always and all ways in this pilgrim journey!
