Key WYD Payment Dates
There are two main dates when payments are due to be aware of as we prepare for World Youth Day in July 2008:

  • Tuesday 11 March 2008
This is the final day for payments for flights to Williment Event Management.

  • Friday 9 May 2008
This is the day the World Youth Day Registration Fee is due. 
This is payable via the Egeria Registration System.  Payments can be made by Credit Card at any time and can be paid in installments.
(Note: our Office was originally incorrectly informed this fee was due on 1 March 2008 - we have since been informed that a cancellation fee will apply if you withdraw after 1 March 2008.) 
 
Programme for WYD

Opening Mass – Barangaroo.

  • Tues 15th 4pm-7.30pm concludes with festival.


Youth Festival – 150 hrs of youth festival

  • Tues- Prior to and after Opening Mass
  • Wed- 2pm-10pm
  • Thurs- 6pm-10pm
  • Fri- 7pm-10pm


Papal Arrival

  • 2pm-3pm Arrival Pope in Sydney Harbour
  • 3pm-4pm Welcome for Holy Father at Barangaroo.
  • 4pm-5pm Papal Drive through Sydney CBD


Stations of the Cross

  • 13 Stations, 6 sites
  • Up to 500,000 live spectators


Pilgrimage Walk

  • Four routes, 3 routes on road. 1 off road.
  • On road routes available from 5.30am.
  • Buses available to talk people to the beginning of the routes at 4.30am.


Closing Mass

  • 10am-12:30pm
  • Only 70,000 people can be moved out of Randwick per hour.
  • A concert will follow after the Mass to hold crowds.
 
What to Bring
There are a few things you'll need to bring for your stay in Sydney for World Youth Day.  Here is a list of some things you'll require:

  • Money belt or similar to carry your passport and extra money etc on your person
  • Passport, with visa for passports from all countries other than New Zealand and Australia
  • Your WYD08 Itinerary and registration details
  • Sleeping bag or small blankets, ground mat, tarpaulin or ground sheet, and warm clothing for the overnight vigil.  (Sydney can get very cold at night in July) 
  • Good walking shoes
  • Rain jacket or poncho, warm jaket and preferably one that packs small.  An umbrella if you're keen to carry one
  • A towel (for those with Simple Accommodation)
  • Water bottle (though one will be supplied when you arrive in Sydney.)  Tap water is safe for drinking.
  • A hat.  Sunblock is also reccommended
  • Flashlight, binoculars, small radio
  • Camera and film (or card for digital) - spare batteries?
  • Credit cards, debit cards, cash or traveller's cheques
  • Your preferred means of contacting home, phone cards etc
  • Photocopies of passport
  • Travel insirance details and copies
  • Power adaptors if required
  • Personal toiletries
  • Personal medication with appropriate documents from Doctor
